Aberystwyth Town Council have received notification from the Big Lottery Fund that they have been successful in their grant funding bid to develop the Kronberg skatepark into a skatepark and community amenity area for all ages.
Councillor Mererid Jones, who has been instrumental in developing the bid said: ‘The Big Lottery Fund grant of £439,039 will be spent on developing a park that offers something for everyone, and for all areas of Aberystwyth - being centrally located to the town, Penparcau, Llanbadarn and Trefechan’.
She continued: ‘It will offer a new, state of the art skatepark but will also include a play area for young children, footpaths, seating and picnic areas for all ages in an extended area up towards the police station and beyond the existing skatepark. The natural habitat will be enhanced with trees planted and views of the river opened up. It will be a lovely amenity area and will enhance the gateway into Aberystwyth’.
The Mayor of Aberystwyth Town Council, Councillor Brendan Somers added: ‘The Council has eagerly and patiently waited for good news from the Big Lottery Fund and is now delighted with this result. We look forward to working with partners to provide a wonderful facility for Aberystwyth.’
The aim is for work on developing the new park to begin sometime in November and to be completed by next summer.
