Council Finance
Aberystwyth Town Council’s regular income comes from its precept, which is collected through Council Tax in the Aberystwyth precept area (see map). The precept is set annually, according to the annual budget used to manage the Council’s expenditure. The Council spends on things such as staff & a public facing office, parks, playgrounds, green spaces, events, markets and Christmas lights. It also runs an annual Community Grants scheme, which distributes grants to local community groups and organisations.
Aberystwyth Town Council supplements its income with various grant applications which support new and existing projects, such as Parc Kronberg which was funded by a Big Lottery grant application.
This map shows the Aberystwyth precept area. Aberystwyth Town Council’s finance comes from taxpayers within this area only. This acts as the Councils area of operation, meaning that its services are restricted to this area only; for example, Community Grants can only be given to groups whose membership or activity is primarily within this area.
